Can a partner change the opt-in authorization for a contact?

Yes, a partner user can change the Opt-in Authorization by editing the contact's information.

Navigate to the contact's detail page from one of these areas, then click Edit Details:

  • Contacts > Contacts > selected contact
  • Contacts > Registered Leads > selected contact > View Contact
  • Contacts > Distributed Leads > selected contact > View Contact
  • Contacts > Contact Lists > selected contact list > selected contact

The Opt-in Authorization field for a contact has three possible values - the current status for the contact decides what changes the partner user can make:

  • Authorized for selected communications -  a partner can change the status to Authorized for all communications or Do not contact.
  • Authorized for all communications - a partner can change the status to Authorized for selected communications or Do not contact.
  • Do not contact - A partner can't change the status. The recipient is responsible for changing their own Opt-In Authorization status. For more information, see What happens when a contact unsubscribes, are they unsubscribed to all lists?

Status descriptions:

  • Authorized for selected communications - The contact can opt in to communications on a list-by-list basis.
  • Authorized for all communications - The contact is subscribed to all mailings or lists of which they're a member.
  • Do not contact - The contact will receive no email communications.

  • In this article I can't understand what "Selected Communications" is referring to.
