Staying in touch with your customers is an important part of any marketing plan. The contact database is made up of individual contacts that represent an individual person or business with specific contact information such as name, address, city, state, and phone number.
One piece of the demographic information is the contact's company name. Companies are created in two ways in the portal:
- A company is created when a contact responds to a marketing touch by viewing/visiting a website. If the company information is not included, the system will take the email domain and populate the company name field. For example, jim@apple.com will result in Apple, Inc being added as the company name.
- A company can be created when a lead provides company information via a form.
When a company is created in one of the two ways above, the company is linked to the partner and will appear in our lists and reports. The system will also update company names for consistency, such as by correcting what appears to be misspelled names.
A company can also be entered directly onto the contact information form. If the company already exists in portal records, the contact is linked to the existing company. When and if this contact becomes a lead, a company will be created. The company is linked to the partner and appears in our lists and reports.
Because of these company creation rules in the portal, only companies that have interacted with you will appear in your companies list.
If you want to know all your contacts associated with a specific company, navigate to your Companies page.
You can see this information in the page:
- # of Companies Found
Check how many companies have been created from leads.
- Search
Find a company by searching with keywords.
The list is presented by the number of events a company's carried out as a default - use the controls above the results to change the sorting.
- Filters
Limit the companies that display in the list. You can filter against these values:
- Event carried out by the contacts in the company
- Industry
- Sort
Control the order in which the companies display. You can sort by Events (default), Most Recent Event, Create Date, Name, and Industry.
If you've applied a sort, click the
icon to save it. The next time you navigate to the page, it will be arranged in the same way.
- Company Details
View a summary about each company: the events and leads associated with it. Click the company name to open the details view and show the contacts that come from the company.
In the details view, you specify that the company should be ignored, which will exclude them from any reports/statistics and not permit any leads associated with the company to be auto-generated.
